Greg Kendig, husband, father, friend and musician, departed this earth on August 3, 2018.
Born in Hershey on March 24, 1950, Greg grew up in Palmyra and graduated from the Palmyra High School Class of 1968. After graduation from computer technology training, Greg began his working career, primarily with the former AMP Corporation and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
But it was not Greg’s work that defined him, it was his music. For over fifty years, from the time he first heard the Beatles’ music and then taught himself to play on a $20 electric guitar to the last moments of his life, Greg never lost his passion for writing music and playing, singing and performing, whether it was a solo act or as a member of many musical groups over the decades. He took special joy in performing and recording with his wife, Leanne, in the acoustic duo Autumn Brew, and also in singing with the famed R&B band Class Act Featuring Rita. Greg was even requested and honored to play and sing at an Inaugural Breakfast and private birthday party of Governor Tom Ridge. As an organ donor, a successful direct donation was made to a family friend.
Greg was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harold Henry Kendig and Veronica Schewkun Kendig of Palmyra. In addition to his loving wife Leanne of Landisville, he is survived by son Ryan Kendig of Philadelphia, daughter Morgan Kendig of Collegeville, brother Harry Kendig and wife Stacey of Hagertown, MD, sister Judy Arnold and husband William of The Villages, FL, niece Tara Kendig Jones of Lakeland, FL, nephew Zachary Arnold of Wildwood, FL, great nieces Kendall Jones and Ryleigh Jones and great nephew Kolby Jones all of Lakeland, FL.
A memorial Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held at 4:00 PM August 17, 2018 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 40 West Pine Street, Palmyra preceded by a visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the rescue organization that Greg’s beloved canine soulmate Duffy was adopted from: Barktown Dog Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc., 100 Eagles Landing #310, Jasper, GA 30143.
Greg was wonderfully kind, generous, fun and fun-loving. Those of us who knew and loved him will never get over our loss. But his music remains.
