Betty Ruth Brandt, 95, formerly of Palmyra, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Spang Crest Manor, Lebanon.
Born December 14, 1922 in Palmyra, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Emilie (Backhaus) Brandt.
A graduate of Palmyra High School class of 1940, she lived in Palmyra until 2010 when she moved to Spang Crest Manor. She was a lifetime member of Palm Lutheran Church, where she attended faithfully and was active in all their programs.
Her early employment was in the offices of the former Sowers Printing Company of Lebanon and former AAA office in Palmyra. Following those jobs, she was employed by the federal government as a finance clerk at Indiantown Gap and New Cumberland military bases.
An active member of the former Palmyra Women’s Club, Betty loved social events, theater, concerts and travel. Volunteering was important to her. She delivered Meals on Wheels, helped in the gift shop at Spang Crest Manor and visited many homebound folks.
In spite of her physical challenges since birth, she was a strong independent person.
She was predeceased by her sisters Emily Schoffstall, Kathryn Lauck and her nephew Luther B. Schoffstall.
Surviving are her niece Amelia, wife of James Rothermel; nephew Joseph F. “Bud” Lauck; two great nieces; three great nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra preceded by a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
