Verna M. Shirk of Grantville died at home Sunday, January 29, 2012, her 97th birthday.

Born January 29, 1915 in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Frank, Sr. and Celia (Markley) Fair.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Grantville, and a former member of Farm Women #4.  The widow of Arthur J. Shirk, she was also preceded in death by a daughter Evelyn M. Seaman Geesaman and her infant daughter Beverly Seaman, two brothers, and three sisters.

Surviving are her children Vivian I. Knight of Plano, Texas and Edwin D. Shirk of Grantville; siblings Pauline Palm and Frank Fair, Jr. both of Lancaster County; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra preceded by a visitation from 10:00 AM.  Interment in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Dear Vivian and Eddie,

I am sorry that your mother has passed away. I remember when I was young and visited the farm how kind your parents were to me. I hope your good memories of your mother will help you to live with this sad loss.
