Rev. James Edward Hays, 78, of Palmyra passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born May 31, 1938 in Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Percy A. and Helen A. (Suders) Hays.
A retired pastor of Palmyra Assembly of God Church, he was a golden jubilarian serving 50 years of ministry in the Assemblies of God. He was a 1956 graduate of James Buchanan High School, 1959 graduate of Eastern Bible Institute of the Assemblies of God and former public relations director for Teen Challenge.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years Elsie L. (Hollen) Hays; children James D., husband of Judy Hays of Palmyra and Diane L., wife of Robert Hall of Palmyra; siblings John Hays, Percy “Bill” Hays and Gloria Hawk; grandchildren Jessica Miller, Jaclyn, wife of Steve Cooper, Danielle Schultz, Jacob Schultz and Nina Schultz; great grandchildren Peyton Miller, Alexis Miller, Jonah Cooper, and Simon Cooper; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 5, 2017 at Palmyra Assembly of God Church, 1384 Park Drive, Palmyra. Viewings will be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday and 10:00 – 11:00 AM Friday both at the church. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
