Welcome to the memorial page for

Lance Johnson

August 9, 1945 ~ August 16, 2016 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Lance Johnson, 71, of Palmyra passed away at home Tuesday, August 16, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

Born August 9, 1945 in Butte, Montana and raised in Medicine Bow, Wyoming, he was the son of the late Fred and Iola (Burrows) Johnson and was also preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Downey of Roseburg, Oregon.

Retired as a Casualty General Adjuster from Crawford & Company, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and History from the University of Wyoming and completed graduate work at Millersville University.  He formerly taught English and History at Conneaut Valley High School and the Patton School for Boys.  During his tenure, he fulfilled basketball coaching positions at both schools.  He was a voracious reader who surrounded himself and his loved ones with books and music.  He was a major history buff, especially the Civil War, so much so that he convinced his true love, Brenda, to marry him at Gettysburg.  Lance was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey and NASCAR.  He could so readily hold a conversation and record statistics of a game or race at the same time without missing a play, a foul shot, a toss, an icing or a lap.

Surviving are his wife of almost 32 years Brenda (Brown) Johnson who will miss him dearly; daughters who will cherish him forever, Tonya Pyle of Edinboro, PA, Tami Johnson of Austin, Texas, Lisa, wife of Greg Beard of Lebanon, PA, and Marya Johnson of Mayville, New York; along with eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; a niece and a nephew.

We will remember him for his intellect, witty sense of humor, unconditional love, his strong belief in always doing the right thing and his unwavering conviction that one’s responsibility regarding their successes in life is based on one’s own hard work.

Services will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the University of Wyoming Foundation in memory of Lance Johnson.  Address:  222 South 22nd Street, Laramie, Wyoming 82070. www.uwyo.edu/foundation
