John W. Summy, 89, of Traditions of Hershey passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 in his home.
Born March 1, 1927 in Hershey, he was a son of the late John C. and Martha M. (Krady) Summy and was also preceded in death by sons Neil Summy and Brian Summy and siblings Marlene Summy, Russel Summy, Gary Summy, Doris Frank and JoAnn Muzikar.
He retired from Nationwide as an Insurance Manager and was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II. A member of First United Methodist Church, Palmyra, the U. S. Chess Association and Palmyra American Legion, he was also a member of the Lancaster County, Lancaster/Mennonite, Lebanon, Derry Township, Manheim and Hummelstown Historical Societies.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years Emily M. (Pala) Summy; children J. Michael Summy of North Carolina, Lori A. Jasper of Texas, LuAnn M. Pallas of Fairfield and Lynda A. Sparrow of Texas; siblings James Summy of Palmyra, George Summy of Manheim, Helen Scott of Carlisle, Janet Killian of Palmyra, Gail Uctum of Florida, Frances Greiner of Ulysses and Peggy Achey of Elizabethtown; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 21, 2016 at his church, 520 East Birch Street, Palmyra preceded by a viewing from 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Hershey Cemetery.
