Joanne A. Canovas, 78, of Palmyra passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at home.
Born September 1, 1937 in Hershey, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Donmoyer) Henry and the widow of Lester J. Canovas since September 1, 2005.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ and had worked for many years as a hostess at the former Hallmans Restaurant, Palmyra.
Surviving are her daughter Pamela A., wife of James Toomey of Annapolis, Maryland; son Douglas H., husband of Maria Canovas of Redwood City, California; sisters Kathryn, wife of Timothy Lutz of Placentia, California and Louise, wife of Russel VanValkenburgh of Brea, California; grandchildren Allie and Connor Toomey and Sam Canovas.
Joanne was a loving and giving person who looked after many people. She tirelessly cooked and baked and was known for her famous sugar cookies. She was often seen with her high school girlfriends from Palmyra High Class of 55 and was an avid pinochle player. Her three grandchildren were the joy of her life.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 5, 2016 at her church, 40 West Pine Street, Palmyra with interment in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Visitations 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday and 10:00 – 11:00 AM Thursday both at the church.
