H. Barry Heaps, 81, of Palmyra passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born July 7, 1935 in Hershey, he was a son of the late Hugh S. and Alma H. (Hoover) Heaps and was also preceded in death by his sister Norma Jean Stewart.
He was an ice cream maker for Hershey Estates and later worked as a design draftsman for General Electric and Philadelphia Mixers. A 1953 graduate of Hershey High School, he was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Palmyra where he was active on the Property Maintenance Committee. He was a U. S. Navy veteran serving on the U. S. S. Amphion, a member of the American Legion, Brownstone Lodge #666 F. & A.M., Zembo Shrine, Hershey Shrine, Lebanon County Shrine, and Quittapahilla Tall Cedars #25.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years Eileen Lehman Heaps; daughters Lori Ann, wife of Thomas Bezek of Dallastown and Cynthia Louise, wife of Wade Schirmer of Frederick, Maryland; brother Dr. Kenneth, husband of Judith Heaps of Red Lion; grandsons Daniel Thomas Bezek and Peter William Bezek; nieces and nephews; and little dog Cody.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 40 West Pine Street, Palmyra preceded by a masonic service at 10:45 AM. Private interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Colebrook.
