Esther M. Kauffman, 98, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 in Frey Village, Middletown.
Born May 31, 1917 in Hummelstown, she was a daughter of the late James D. and Mary A. (Robb) Slough. The widow of David E. Kauffman since January 2002, she was also preceded in death by her son Donald E. Kauffman, brother James Slough, and sisters Alice Peters, Dorothy Cobaugh, and Mabel Eshenour.
Retired from the former Mel Keckler Insurance Agency, Hershey, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown where she was formerly a children’s Sunday School teacher for many years and member of the choir and widows group. She was very dedicated and delivered Meals on Wheels for 36 years. A square dancer and member of Curliques, she was a volunteer at the Hummelstown Food Pantry, storyteller at Hummelstown Library from 1979 to 1989 and a member of the Hershey Order of the Eastern Star #509. She was a loyal friend to many and loving mother and Nana.
Surviving are her daughter Carol, wife of Mike Hubler of Pillow; daughter-in-law Peggy Kauffman of Dauphin; grandchildren Donald, husband of Kym Kauffman, Douglas Kauffman, and Michelle, wife of Scott Scheff; and great grandchildren Samantha, Connor, and Owen.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at her church, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown preceded by a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in Hummelstown Cemetery.
