David J. Smith

David J. Smith, 84, of Palmyra passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 in the WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

Born August 24, 1933 in Reading, he was a son of the late David J., Sr. and Florence (Boyer) Smith, the widower of Anna Mae (Teahl) Smith since February 2014 and was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

He retired from Kercher Machine Works, Lebanon with 35 years of service and later worked at K & G Hardware, Palmyra.   A graduate of Womelsdorf High School and Thaddeus Institute of Technology, Dave was a member of Lebanon Area Evangelical Free Church, Jonestown, Palmyra Sportsmens Association and Hammer Creek Hunting Club. He was formerly an umpire for Lebanon County, president of the Palmyra Little League and Lebanon Valley Slow Pitch Softball League, and secretary treasurer of the Lebanon Valley Twilight League.  Dave was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the Lebanon County Sports Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his children Deborah A., wife of Richard E. Kern, Jr. of Annville, Ronald L., husband of Cynthia S. Smith of Palmyra, David B., husband of Tracy L. Smith of Carlisle, and Mary A. Smith of Palmyra; grandchildren Andrea L., wife of Christopher M. Fackler, Paul D. Kern, Allen R., husband of Beth Kern, Chadwick R. Smith, Corey M. Smith and Courtney A., wife of Brett Keyte; step grandchildren Kelly, wife of Joshua Carapezza and Kevin Pollock; and great granddaughters Addison O. Keyte and Emma C. Keyte.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 1, 2017 at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra.  Viewings 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday and 1:00 – 2:00 PM Friday both at the funeral home.  Interment in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
